Ordering Material for the Library

Help the Library support your teaching by ordering material for our collections. Each academic department is allocated funds to purchase library materials. If the approval of your Department's Library Representative is required, contact them so that they can review and submit the order. That person can give you more information on ordering for the Library.

Please use Request Material on the library’s Forms page for any items you wish to add to the collection.

If you have any other questions concerning acquisitions, please contact the Library at libacq@uww.edu, or call 262-472-5512.

Ebook Purchase Policy

Unlike when a physical book is purchased, there are many things to consider when acquiring an ebook for use at an institutional level.  While we have many resources containing ebooks that might be part of subscriptions, the information provided here will deal specifically with when a faculty member is requesting us to purchase a book where the preferred format is online electronic access versus a physical item that resides on our shelves.

  • Vendor or Provider:  As an institution, we cannot purchase ebooks from Amazon as they are for personal use only.  Ebook Vendors must have a contract with GOBI, our ordering platform. We are not able to purchase directly from Academic Societies, but many of their publications are offered through a typical distribution vendor which provides us the access.
  • Cost:  There is no base or "standard" cost to an ebook.  It can run from only a few dollars more than the print version to several hundred dollars higher since we acquire the material as an institution.
  • Purchase Model, aka Access Model or Purchase Option or License, refers to the number of patrons that can simultaneously access the ebook before being turned away.

Access Models

  • For one-time ebook purchases, cost and class need are the important considerations when determining which option to choose.
  • The eBooks from GOBI help page provides additional information; the table below provides the standard definitions for the purchase models we use.
Most common Purchase models
Purchase Model Definition of Simultaneous Access
1-User (or Single) One user at a time
3-User  Three users at a time
Multi-User (or Unlimited) Unlimited number of users
