How to Search for Scores & Audio Using Research@UWW

Search Research@UWW's "Books, Media & more (UW Whitewater)."

If Andersen Library (or Rock's library) doesn't have it, then search other UW libraries ("Books,Media & more UW System"). You can have materials from the Rock campus library, or from other UW libraries, sent to Andersen Library. See the "Getting Materials from Other Libraries" tab

Sample searches:

  1. composer last name AND "title of work" ............................ Mozart AND "Cosi fan tutte"
  2. composer last name AND works ....................................... Joplin AND works
  3. form / genre AND instrument ..............................................cantata AND oboe

Choose a 'Resource Type" under the the Filters, such as audio, video, scores, etc..

Here's a screenshot of an example:

Find Your Way to Books and Scores on Andersen Library's 3rd Floor

Research@UWW's Books, Media and more (UW Whitewater) will indicate if an item is in the "Main Collection" or "Main Collection, Oversize," which is where taller items go.

Browsing the Shelves: Library of Congress Classification for Music (Call Numbers)

Call numbers on library books/scores group them by topic or genre. Most books dealing with music have call numbers starting with M. Lettered areas are further subdivided by additional letters and/or numbers (see examples below). You can use this information to browse library shelves.

In general:

M = scores/printed music

ML = books about music

MT = music theory, instruction & study

Recital Recordings

The UW-Whitewater Music Department has deposited a collection of recital/concert recordings in the Archives & Area Research Center. These are not found in Research@UWW's Books Media and more (UW Whitewater). Please contact the Archivist, Jennifer Motszko, for assistance.
