There is a Better World Books pick up scheduled for Friday, 12/5. The driver will call the Circ Desk when they are on or near campus.

Pick up time: between 9:00am-4:00pm
Truck Company: Dohrn Carrier
Pallet locationInside Door #6 (closest door to parking lot #12 at the turnaround) This is room #1211, immediately to the left coming into the inside glass doors.

Process when the driver calls the Circ Desk:

  1. Tell them someone is on their way to meet them at Door #6.
  2. Student only at Circ: See if staff member is nearby to send the Webex message or call the Ref Desk at ext.1032 (if it's Friday, Ref Desk open 11-3pm).
    1. We just need them to send the Webex message; they don’t have to stop their work unless they are available to handle the pickup.
  3. Staff member at Circ: Send message “Dohrn waiting for BWB pickup” on the BWB Pickup Webex channel.
  4. Any staff member that is available to meet them, please send an affirmative response in Webex.
  5. Take paperwork, key, and another person (if available, to help hold the outside door) to room #1211

Notes:

Paperwork (2 copies) & key to room is on clipboard in the mailbox located next to the door outside Macaela's former office.

Any staff member can open the locked room and sign both copies of the paperwork. Students are not allowed to sign the paperwork, though they can help during the process as the outside doors to the building need to be manually held open.

When items get sent to the ITS Helpdesk, after the issue is resolved they are returned at the circulation desk.  If someone from ITS drops off a laptop while you are on desk, please either send a tech problems email or let someone in Systems know.  The instructions for sending a tech problems email are both on the libguide and on top of the laptop case.

Please leave anything returned from ITS on top of the laptop case.  The items need to be checked to make sure the issue has been resolved.

Mike Stibor from Kinesiology will be dropping off some old architectural drawings at the circ desk.  He should be there sometime in the early afternoon tomorrow (10/14).  Likely, Jennifer will be in the Archives with researchers at that time. Please accept the drawings, notify Jennifer, and put them in a safe place until Jennifer can retrieve them.

This week we have had a few patrons come to the desk with questions or issues using lockdown browser on the library desktops.

The PC computers have a camera on the top edge of the screen that you have to press down to pop the camera up.  If a patron comes to the desk saying there is no camera/ the camera does not work, please show them how to pop the camera up.

The Mac computers should not be connected to wifi (they are connected to ethernet).  If a patron comes to the desk saying lockdown browser is not working on a mac, please check to see if they are connected to wifi - you can toggle the wifi off and lockdown browser should work normally.

The campus is holding a fire drill tomorrow, Wednesday, 8 October.  Andersen building will be one of the first buildings with a planned alarm time between 10:30 and 11:00. Everyone will need to exit the building. Students and staff in  Access Services will clear the 3rd floor. We do have a student who is scheduled to shred during that time. He will lock the Mezzanine and exit the building as soon as possible.

1.  When a laptop is returned, please clean it with a disinfecting wipe - the UV box does not get the grime off.

2.  If the patron forgot to log off, please restart the laptop

3.  If you see a fulfilment note pop up when scanning in a return, please read it.  If there is a note saying "route to Tech Services upon return" please place it on the laptop case for us.

Thank you for all your help and hard work!   It has been a very busy 2 weeks with laptop checkouts!

Thought Station

  • All issues with the functions of the vending machines should be referred to the Dining Services office
    • Payment Issues (Refunds, Double-charges, etc)
      • The person needs to go to the Dining Services office, UC room 66 (PDF map), 1st floor of the UC in the hallway to the right of The Dub restaurant
      • If they need more directions, have them stop at the Info Desk in the UC
    • Questions in general: warhawkdining@compass-usa.com
    • Report a malfunctioning machine where there isn't a payment issue: (262) 472-5094 (office administrator: Rachel Edmundson)
  • Cleaning
    • If a spill or mess happens we should clean it up as soon as we notice it. Please do so yourself or, if someone is available, you can ask a Circ Student to do it.
      • Cleaning supplies are in the metal cabinet across from the Circ sink. Dirty rags go in laundry hamper next to tool cart.
    • We will schedule Circ Students to check the cafe area twice a day to:
      • Wipe off the counter/pick up any stray trash
      • Wipe out the microwave

Printing

  • Printing continues to be an adventure with lots of variations in what happens someone logs into a Windows computer
    • The box to install the printers on Windows desktops does not always appear automatically. Those students need to use the Print Deploy option right from the start.
    • When some students use the Print Deploy option, they have an extra step to select "Install" before they have access to another button that allows them to "Sign In & Install."
      • For some students, all 3 printers install automatically. For others, only the printer they initially selected to "Sign In & Install" is installed.
  • New printing instructions starting from WHO the person is:
    • Students
    • Community Patrons
  • New Print to Pay Queues Sign at the Circ Desk has a QR code that will open the person's email and start a message to circdesk@uww.edu
    • Useful for public patrons printing from cell phones

You CAN renew some laptops that are in lost status. This can make a positive impact on a student and relieve some stress. Please remember to review the steps for renewing laptops in Lost status: The presence or absence of a fulfilment note (and the info in the note) determines whether staff can renew a "lost" laptop for a student. It is not (just) dependent on the time since the item was marked lost.

Starting now, Community Borrower Accounts are free for patrons to provide an alternative to the Whitewater Public Library during its closures & building phase. While accounts are free, all Community Borrower accounts created this summer and fall will expire on 12/31/2025. I've reviewed the instructions and updated the screenshots for entering a new patron into ALMA. There are physical instructions with the cards (new format to use up our unexpectedly large supply of printable business cards).

This is a temporary change for the summer and fall. We will review the policies for Community Borrowers over Winter Break.
