Acknowledge AI-Generated Content

Generative AI tools are able to generate content for various tasks such as:

  • Research
  • Editing
  • Writing
  • Image Generation

Before you begin to use AI tools in your assignments, check if your instructor permits the use of Generative-AI tools.

If AI use is permitted, always acknowledge the use of AI tools in your assignments by either citing them or providing an AI acknowledgement statement as specified by your instructor.

AI Acknowledgement Statement

Include the following information in your AI acknowledgment statements:

  • Name of the Artificial Intelligence tool (eg. Gemini 2.0 Flash)
  • Link to the website where you accessed the tool (eg. https://gemini.google.com/app)
  • Description of the task you used the AI tool for (eg. generated text or image, edited text or image)
  • List of specific prompts (eg. Proofread this section for grammar issues and provide a list of suggested changes)
  • Explanation of how you used the output in your final work (eg. output suggestions were used to edit my paper for grammar)

Recommended Format

I acknowledge the use of [AI tool] ([website URL]) to [describe task]. The prompts used include [list prompts]. The output from these prompts was used to [explain use]

Examples of Acknowledgement Statements

Example: Generated Text

I acknowledge the use of Gemini 2.0 Flash (https://gemini.google.com/app) to research the banning of Propylparaben in the United States. I entered the following prompt on April 10, 2025:
  • Original prompt: In which US states is Propylparaben banned in 2025?
  • Follow up prompt: Provide information from reliable sources and cite the sources

The output from these prompts was refined and used in the introduction of my case study analysis.

Example: Generated Image

I acknowledge the use of Adobe Firefly (https://www.adobe.com/products/firefly.html) to generate an image of a pile of red candy. I entered the following prompt on April 9, 2025:

  • "A pile of red candy"

The output from this prompt was used as a decorative image in my PowerPoint presentation.

Example: Editing or Refining Text

I acknowledge the use of Copilot (https://copilot.microsoft.com/chats/4sXYbqomdFiKJ1cH6dR7b) to identify grammatical errors in my case study analysis. I copied and pasted the two paragraphs in my recommendations section into the message box and entered the following prompt on April 7, 2025:
  • Original prompt: Proofread this for grammar and provide a list of suggested changes

The output from these prompts was used to edit my Recommendations section. I used the suggestions to make some changes but the output was primarily to identify grammatical errors from which I made original edits.

Example: No AI Use

No AI tools or technologies were used in the completion of this assignment.
