Locate Impact Factors

FAQ: Do you have the official Journal Impact Factor for a journal I want to publish in?

Short Answer: Maybe. Read on.

Long Answer: We do not subscribe to Journal Citation Reports, the product from Clarivate that computes the "official" Impact Factors for most journals.

However, many publishers are making the Impact Factor numbers available on their own pages for the journals. Use the tabs within this box to see how to view those for Sage, Springer, and Wiley journals. More will be added as we become aware of them (please tell us, if you find another publisher's website that is making its Impact Factors freely available).

As well, see some options in the box below this one to see other metrics. Some links are more useful for some fields than others, but explore the options.

1. Click the link above for Sage Journals. This is also available via the Library Databases A-Z listing.

2. Browse the Journal List by title or discipline to identify a journal of interest.

3. Click the journal title to view publication information.

Impact factors and rankings are those calculated by Journal Citation Reports® (from Clarivate). Note that rankings are provided for each discipline in which the journal is categorized:

Only journals published by Sage will be located here.

1. Click the link above for Springer Journal Impact

2. Browse the Journal List by title or discipline to identify a journal of interest.

3. Under each journal's title is its impact factor, 5-year impact factor, plus some other metrics such as Cite Score, social media mentions and downloads.

2. Click 1,600+ Journals.

3. Browse the Journal List by alphabetical title or subject to identify a journal of interest.

4. Click the journal title to view publication information -- the Impact Factor, plus a comparative ranking within that discipline, also provided by Journal Citation Reports.

Only journals published by Wiley will be located here.

We do not subscribe to Journal Citation Reports, which Clarivate acquired from Thomson Reuters. Library users can, however, access the same impact factors from Web of Science.

Library users will have to do the following steps:

Search for the publication in the search bar, and limit the search to Publication/Source Titles on the left drop-down.

Web of science main search page

Click on the first occurrence of the Journal title in the article record from the results list.

Web of science search results page

The Journal information will pop-up on the right and the Journal Impact Factor would be just below the title and publisher information.

Other measures of impact

Besides the well-known Impact Factor, there are various other methods for calculating the significance of a journal. Other sources of metrics information are located below.

Various impact measurements for newer journals may not be available, as they need to be in existence long enough for impact to be calculated.
