Search Tips

EBSCO Databases

If a periodical is in an EBSCO database, use the Advanced Search and add additional terms to focus your search on subsequent lines/fields, one concept per line. When you want a choice of terms on the same concept, separate them with OR on the same line. Put quotation marks around short phrases and book titles.

Gale Databases

If a periodical is in a Gale database, start by entering a search in the "Search Within Publication" box following this formula: "portrait painting" AND clothing. For subsequent searches, use the Advanced Search and add additional terms to focus your search on subsequent lines/fields, one concept per line. When you want a choice of terms on the same concept, separate them with OR on the same line. Put quotation marks around short phrases and book titles. Full text articles appear in the item record, however, to get it in context of the periodical page with images, etc. select Download and then print or email that PDF.
