Similar to a Google Scholar profile, an ORCID (Open Researcher & Contributor ID) helps to collect all of your research in one place:
- Collates all the possible versions/ways your name might be written across different journals, funding agencies, schools, collaborators...
- Can be connected to your Google Scholar profile, Web of Knowledge Researcher ID, Scopus Author ID, etc...
- It's from a nonprofit, rather than being owned by Google
