How to Borrow From Other Libraries

• A free service for current UW-Whitewater students, faculty and staff
• Use it to get materials that are not currently at your campus’ library
  • Can borrow books, media, government documents, and more from circulating collections at other libraries
  • Can get PDFs of articles and book chapters
  • Cannot borrow non-circulating items such as entire periodicals and materials from special collections
• Seamlessly borrow from other UW System libraries or, if not available there, from one of our partner libraries
• Items usually take 3 weekdays to arrive at your UWW campus

Beginning on the UWW Libraries homepage:

1. Select Books, Media & more (UW System) from the dropdown menu in the Research@UWW box
2. Enter your search terms in the text box using the tips found in the Research@UWW: Search Tips guide
3. Select the Search button

1. Select Sign In in the upper right hand corner
2. Select UWW Students / Staff Login
3. Enter your username (Net-ID/email name) and password
4. Select the Login button

By following these steps, you'll avoid most erroneous appearances the specific conditions and no resource sharing request boxes.

When you click on the "Click here to learn more" link, the new message indicates you cannot borrow the item (No Resource Sharing Request Options). This is likely incorrect.

1. Select the title of the item you want
2. Sign in if you haven't already done so
3. If UWW has the book or media item you want, there will be a message in one of these sections:
   • Get It - The campus name, location, and call number where you can find the book or other item
     • If the item is at your library:
       • Copy or take a photo of the campus, collection, floor, and call number. You will need this to find the item.
     • If the item is not at your library:
       • Select Request from UWW (1-3 days)
       • Select your Pickup Location
       • Select Send Request
   • View Online - You will see one or more links to the online item
     • Select a link and sign in to the database to access it
4. If UWW does NOT have the item, in the Get It From Another Library section select Get It under one of the two options:
   • Get a Physical Copy to have entire books or media item delivered to your UWW library in 1-3 days
     • Check that the correct pick up location is selected (UW-Whitewater or Rock County Library)
     • Enter a volume number if you want one volume of a multivolume work
     • If you are a distance education student, enter a detailed message (See Distance Education tab for more information)
     • Select the Send button
   • Need a Chapter? to have a chapter or small selection from a book emailed to you as a PDF within 24 hours. This option is not always available.
     • Check that your UWW email address is correct
     • Enter the chapter title, chapter author, chapter number and volume, page range, and a note with any additional useful information
     • Read the Copyright Law of the United States note and check the box preceding it
     • Select the Send button
5. When done, select the large X on the left side
6. At the end of your research session:
   • Select the down arrow next to your name in the upper right hand corner of the Research@UWW display
   • Select Sign Out from the options in the upper right hand corner
   • Close your browser
7. If a request fails for any reason, you will receive an email from us explaining why
