Loan History & Privacy Policy

What Do You Need to Do? 

If you wish to maintain your full loan history:  Follow the instructions below by Friday, March 14, 2025.

If you do not wish to maintain your full loan history:  Do nothing!  Starting in mid-March, if your account has history older than six months, that older information will be anonymized, removing any connection it has to your account.

You Must Opt In to Retain Your Full History

If you want to maintain your entire loan history, you will need to complete the following quick process by Friday, March 14, 2025:

1. Log into your Library account by following the My Account link at the top of any library page
2. Once in your account, select the Loans tab.
3. Switch from viewing Active Loans to Previous and Historic Loans
4. Follow the link in the Historic Loans box to View the Loan History app
5. From the Choose to Save Your Borrowing History page, select the button saying "Yes, Please Save My History"
6. You will see a confirmation message, and in a few minutes, your history should be visible in the app

Any accounts that do not opt in by March 14, 2025 will have their loan history reduced to the prior six months, and loan history older than that will be anonymized and not recoverable.

If you decide later that you do want your loan history anonymized, you can go back to the Loan History app and opt out, under the Settings page.

About Your Loan History & Privacy Policy

Whenever you check out or return an item, our system keeps a record of the transaction, which links details about the item you borrowed to your account. To protect your privacy, starting in mid-March 2025, UW-Whitewater Libraries will anonymize all loan history data older than six months. This means the records will no longer include identifying information about the borrower. While we’ll keep the loan data for collection analysis, we won’t be able to link it to individual patrons. This new privacy policy applies to all libraries within the Universities of Wisconsin System.
